Thanks to the Allegany County United Way, Literacy West NY, Inc., is able to employ a fulltime Career Coach. Through assistance of the Career Coach, the adult students complete comprehensive skills assessments and interest inventories, leading to the creation of customized career and educational/training plans.
Students explore the 16 Career Clusters as established by the U.S Department of Education model and the knowledge and skills requirements for their career interest areas. The Career Clusters framework connects students with courses of study and careers, and allows them to learn about the transferable skills and knowledge required for jobs in their interest areas. Students are introduced to the local In-Demand Occupations and where possible the students’ career choices are aligned in those areas of local employment needs. Our students become fully aware of all aspects of their desired profession, and have the opportunity to go forth with full knowledge of the opportunities and challenges that are involved.
Students also receive extensive employment preparation services in partnership with the Allegany County Employment & Training Center including job readiness training, mock interviewing, resume preparation and training.
