Allegany County United Way sets new record high in Campaign for 2013

At the January 24 meeting of the Board of Directors of Allegany County United Way Campaign co-chairs Vivien Anderson and Steve Stout announced the United Way has surpassed it goal of $313,000 for the 2013 campaign year.  This year’s campaign is closing at $330,062 which is $17,062 more than the goal that the Board of Directors set.  This is 4 percent more than the $315,892 that was raised for last year’s campaign.

This year’s campaign was an uphill climb all the way from the September 8 Duck Derby kick-off at Island Park which was successful despite persistent rain and wind, until the closing of the campaign. Thanks again to the generosity of people within the county the campaign goal was not only met but exceeded.Steve Stout stated, “Every year we increase the campaign goal because the needs of the residents of Allegany County continue to increase.  And this year despite the overall economic situation of the county and the state we not only met our goal but we exceeded it.”

Vivien Anderson stated, “The programs and initiatives that we support are always in need, especially with reduced levels of state and federal funding available currently.  Giving to the United Way supports essential programs for residents of Allegany County that meet both short-term and long-term needs.”

ACUW executive director Barbara Bates stated, “The success of the Campaign is a result of community members’ firm commitment to helping others. It has been powerful to see first-hand how this generous support touches so many here in Allegany County.”

Now that this year’s campaign has closed, the United Way Impact Councils in the areas of Education, Health, Income Stability and Critical Needs start their work of deciding how the funds raised will be distributed to programs and initiatives in the county.  Information for agencies interested in applying for United Way funding can be found on the website ACUW.com, by emailing the office at ACUW@acuw.com or by calling 585-593-0020.
